Serves: 4
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Garlic Olive Oil
  • ½ of a medium yellow onion, diced
  • ½ cup Marsala cooking wine
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 package Hormel Slow Simmered Beef Tips & Gravy
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste (Gourmet Garden Garlic)
  • 3 tablespoons Hunt's tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon Better Than Bouillon Beef Base
  • ½ cup fat free half and half
  • 15 ounces Kirkland (Costco) 5 Cheese Tortelloni (or use your favorite Buitoni Ravioli)
  • Fresh basil (optional)
Instructions
  1. Saute onion in olive oil until translucent. Add marsala cooking wine and allow alcohol to cook off. Add beef tips and use a wooden spoon to break into smaller pieces. Add remaining ingredients except the pasta and cook for 5 to 10 minutes for the flavors to come together.
  2. Boil tortelloni per package instructions and add them directly to the sauce when finished cooking. The extra pasta cooking water will help thicken the sauce, but if it's too thin, make a slurry of cornstarch in chicken broth and whisk in to thicken (see below). Garnish with basil cut in ribbons.
Notes
To use cornstarch or flour as a thickener, mix it 1:1 with cold water or broth until you have a slurry. Add this to your sauce at the end of cooking until you achieve the thickness you want. Make sure to allow the sauce to bubble (boil) for at least a minute to fully thicken and to avoid a starchy taste.
